China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) has issued Announcement No. 10 of 2026, formally allowing the import of New Zealand pet food that meets specified quarantine and sanitary requirements, effective immediately. The approved product categories include dry pet food, canned pet food, pet treats, pet roll products, pet nutritional supplements, and chew products.

The announcement establishes comprehensive requirements covering disease control, raw material sourcing, production processing, packaging and labelling, and import inspection protocols. Production facilities must operate under HACCP-based risk management plans and be registered with GACC.

Each shipment of pet food containing terrestrial and/or aquatic animal ingredients must be accompanied by an original health certificate.
